I'd like Katie to be at an age when we start the cycle so I can truly teach them both together. Many curriculums start in 3rd grade, so if she's in 2nd & Abby's in 4th, it would be a nice compromise.

Also, I've really loved laying the groundwork for geography this year! In fact, I'm not all the way through but I'd highly recommend this step prior to history. My girls have a good grasp on the fact that this is a large world full of very different people with different tastes, styles, cultures, etc. They are not geography experts, but at the beginning of the year, they didn't know the difference between the terms Continent, Country, & State, or Ocean, Lake, and River. I can see how my girls would have been lost in the world if I had gone right into history.

Also, reading about people from all over the world has really opened their eyes to others around them.

So, I see this as having been a really great jumping off point for future history studies.

I suppose I could start the 4 year cycle next year, and there are a lot of opinions both ways as to when to do US History (in order, or first) and the bottom line is that I'm excited about doing US History and also the curriculum (Bigger Hearts for His Glory) that at this point I plan on using, so I think it will be a good fit for our family. We've been focused pretty broad this whole year, and it will be nice to narrow it down to our country next year.

How's that for a long-winded answer? :)BeckyEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11181670255360575340noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6130643938140591316.post-10878143091091424002009-02-28T23:57:00.000-05:002009-02-28T23:57:00.000-05:00Hi Becky,So I'm coming back to your post now that ...Hi Becky,
So I'm coming back to your post now that I'm further down the road!! :) What has guided you in what to focus on each year? It takes about 2 hours to complete our lessons, unless we really get into it and keep going with a topic or art project. Previously, my goal was to "school" 3-4 days/week. That being said, I do try and have a Bible Lesson and read aloud time every day.BeckyEhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11181670255360575340noreply@blogger.com
